A Journey into Immersive Digital Expression through Augmented Reality
AR Designer
3 weeks
Solo project
As a huge fan of abstract art from the 1960s to the 1990s, I enjoy various pieces by artists such as Peter Max, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol. Many of these pieces were deeply influenced by the social and political movements at the time, whether it was advocacy for human rights or anti-war protests. I love how these artists challenged traditional norms and expressed new ideas to spark public dialog through using new materials, techniques, and concepts that no one had considered before.
I want to offer users a different way to discover and connect with art from the past. By combining the immersive nature of AR with the deep-rooted history of abstract art, I aspire to bridge the gap between traditional art forms and modern technology and make these iconic pieces more accessible and engaging for today's audience.
Art is for everybody, and I truly believe in that. In this project, I want to make art accessible to everyone by using the power of social media. I will create an interactive Instagram filter that will lead users to explore some iconic art pieces from the past. I will achieve this by using Meta Spark Studio and Blender software.
Interactive animated entry by clicking the portal door
This is an example of interacting with the portal door by simply clicking on it. This will trigger an animated entry into the virtual art gallery. The animation enhances the immersive experience and makes the transition from the real world to the digital gallery seamless and engaging. It invites users to actively participate in the art experience and really blurs the boundaries between physical and virtual spaces.
Immersive gallery navigation
This feature allows users to freely walk around the virtual gallery, allowing them to explore art pieces as if they were in a real art gallery. By moving within the AR environment, users can examine each artwork in detail, enhancing the experience of viewing and appreciating the collection.
Embracing New Challenges and Creative Exploration
This has been a fun journey for me. Being able to execute the ideas in my mind into real life is truly rewarding, especially since it’s something that I am personally interested in. This project challenged me to figure out a way to make art from the past appealing to today’s audience while providing insightful context to demonstrate what society looked like before. Fortunately, my Instagram filter execution really helps people who don’t have the same access to be able to see it for themselves with a reach of their hand.
Towards new horizons
If I have another chance to work on a similar project like this in the future, I would love to create a zoom-in feature like a magnifier, so that users can view the art piece in detail, and I think this will amplify the immersive environment of AR as well as making content more interactive.
